Hawaii: Part II, 12/13/14 Edition

Back in August, there was a tweet sent out by @hawaiipartii simply saying “12.13.14”.  It was deleted not long after.  But the internet never forgets.

?????????? (Miracle Musical) had apparently chosen this as the  next day to poke their heads out.  But what would be done?  As it turns out, quite a bit.

First to be served up in the 11th hour of 12/12/14 would be a new music video for “Isle Unto Thyself”, directed by Sean Donnelly (also known as the guy who did “Ruler of Everything“) and  Teddy O’Connor.

labyringth-screenshot-croppedOn the big day itself, we were treated (at 10:11pm central time) to another music video, this time for “Labyrinth,” featuring an 8-bit-style animated Shane MauX  and  Charlene Kaye, directed by Ben Luce.  Ben worked very closely with the indie game developers over at Wonderfling to create — and simultaneously release — an actual, playable video game depicting the events which took place in the aforementioned music video!  Quite an ambitious accomplishment for an all indie-team who had never worked together before and pulled it all together in just a matter of a few months.

Wonderfling is made up of some long-time Tally Hall fans, including Greg (AKA Speizzer on the old Tally Hall forums, who once made a mini Tally Hall game himself).  Ben Luce, I’m told, is a fan who had offered  to create a music video for Tally Hall — and though that didn’t pan out, was given the opportunity to make one for Hawaii: Part II.

Both the Labyrinth music video and game can be watched/downloaded  on Wonderfling’s website and are accepting donations, which will be distributed amongst all the artists who made today’s events happen.  I urge you to give them whatever you can spare, as they all worked extremely hard for it — up until the the very last minutes (no exaggeration).

PLUS… there’s a special bonus surprise that comes with the game download that is really worth at least a few bucks.

I’m not sure if there is or will be a central place to discuss the game or help other fans figure stuff out, but feel free to use the comment section below to do it!

Watch the new music video and download the game!

UPDATE:  To wrap up the weekend, they released a new song; a cover of “Candle On The Water” from the Disney film “Pete’s Dragon”. It’s sung by Laurel Stucky and Robert Chesnick. This song is dedicated to the memory of Diem Brown and Trevelyn Campbell, a long-time fan of Tally Hall.

Anybody figure out how to control the character beyond using the arrows to move? My keyboard doesn’t do anything else and I’m not getting very far.

It’s just the arrow keys. Once you locate the sword, you’ll hit “Z” to swing (but that will be apparent when you find the sword).
