Wait, He Isn’t Dead! Shia Surprise!

When Rob Cantor teased us last week with a behind the scenes snippet of the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles singing lyrics to Rob’s famous “Shia LaBeouf” song, I thought, “Oh, genius.”

Rob has taken note of the popularity of the “Actual Cannibal” Shia LaBeouf meme, which particularly increases during Halloween time, and this past summer decided to get started on giving this once-throwaway song its full due attention.

Enlisting the help of the aforementioned chorus, along with The West L.A. Children’s Choir, The Argus Quartet, Bora, and Zubin, Rob and his friend Greg Nicolett wrote and arranged an extended orchestral  rendition of the song for a “live” stage  performance, complete with dancers choreographed by Stacey Tookey & Bruce Weber.

After reaching out to LaBeouf’s manager, Rob  was pleasantly surprised to learn that Shia would be interested in being involved  — and later, as he relayed to me,  could not have been more impressed with Shia’s professionalism; giving the crew a number of different takes,  each one different, spot-on and hilarious. But in the end, they chose him delivering a perfect re-enactment of the famous Citizen Kane clap.

And I think we’re all glad to see Zubin back on bass, yeah?

All I have to say to you, Rob, is:

Clapping Shia

Few things have made me happier in life than seeing that Citizen Kane clap at the end
