The HITS Christmas Dump of 2021
Recently, a person from the band’s past contacted me. Long story short, they had a lot of old mp3s and photos which they gave to me. I’ve been trying to think of the best way to share them for a few days and while I’d like to put them all up on the HITS YouTube channel, I don’t have the time (in the day, or my life) nor the energy to do that with all of these songs. Plus, a lot of you audiophiles out there would be requesting the most uncompressed files available anyway, so I figured I might as well just put them all in a blog post here for you all to do whatever you want with.
I’ve never heard any of what you’re about to hear so I assume almost all of you haven’t either, unless you were also around during the listedBlack and earliest of Tally Hall days.
To my Tally Hallmanac editors: You know what to do!
OK, without further ado…
The long-sought-after ‘Welcome to Tally Hall EP’ Recordings
listedBlack Live Recordings
Early, Unknown Rob Era Live Recordings
A handful of these songs reference someone that goes by the name “D Spectacular”. This is a mysterious name and new to me. Rob did not immediately respond to my inquiry about this person, either.
EDIT: Rob confirmed that D Spectacular was a guy named Dan P. who lived across the hall from Rob at the U of M. They used to play some shows and open mics together.
I’m pretty sure that’s Zubin singing the backup vocals through most of these, but sometimes it doesn’t sound like him and I wonder if it’s D Spectacular. The one track seems to refer to him in a manner that makes it sound like he’s a member of the band at that time. Are they a drummer? Singer? Maybe keyboardist? Because I also wonder who is playing the keyboard in these recordings. If I learn, I will update this post.
I also got a handful of old photos that I have uploaded to HITS Galleries (SmugMug). Until then, enjoy them at the bottom of this post!
My apologies to the band for this leak of items that they probably would have preferred be kept in the past!

Gallery of Old Photos
These vary between 2002-2004, so take your best guesses as to when each one was taken. UPDATE: Got all the dates! They seem right!
EDIT: Note from Ross: “The pictures where our banner is affixed to two of the giant concrete columns of the @ummamuseum facade are from my very first performance with the band.”
Holy shit merry Christmas!!! Thanks coz!
THIS IS SO COOL WOOO!! Merry Christmas Coz!!!
this is absolutely insane! im really glad that theres still more tally hall content out there 🙂
OUUUUH YAYY
Hi.
Thanks for posting these!
(In regards to the unknown Rob era…)
I can’t remember the venue that we performed at, but this show was before Tally Hall and I was never a member in that group; they formed soon after. This show was at a small coffee shop? in Ann Arbor Michigan.
I think in fall/ winter soon after Rob and I met in the dorms on East Campus. He was trying to perform out so I agreed to back him up.
Just Rob and I on acoustic guitar and vocals.
With the exception of me singing lead on my original composition – can’t remember what I called it
at the moment – ( it’s not “ D Spectacular “ !!! Haha)
Rob is singing lead and I am on back up.
As far as I know, it’s our only performance together: soon after he formed Tally Hall with other players and we parted ways.
If you could send the “D Spectacular “ audio track to my email I would greatly appreciate it!
for any inquiries to my music, I’m actually releasing my 2nd solo LP within the month here:
