Good & Evil 2022 Needlejuice Repress: Here’s What We Know

11 years in the making, Tally Hall’s sophomore album ‘Good & Evil’ is finally being repressed! But what does that mean? Will it cost more? When can I get it?
Be assured that all these questions and more will be answered, as I’ve been working with Needlejuice to quell any and all queries and qualms!

First, let’s start with the basics:

“What’s happening with Good & Evil? What’s a repress?”
The first run of Good & Evil digipak CDs were originally made (or “pressed”)  through Quack!Media (now Q+M Agency). They made a certain number of them, but for a long time, they never made any more.
Now that Tally Hall are signed to Needlejuice Records, more CDs, as well as other formats, are going to be made!

“What formats will it be on?”
You’ll be able to pre-order it on CD, Vinyl, and for the first time ever: Cassette tape!
As soon as the pre-order goes live you’ll be able to purchase the releases digitally through Bandcamp. And if you can’t wait, it’s currently still available to purchase digitally through iTunes.

“Will it be on any other formats?”
Maybe… in time… I’ve heard that Minidisc day is coming up in November…

“Is it any different to the original?”
The CD will have the same master as the original, and will be in a plastic jewel case, with new formatting.
The tape is brand new! And it will have the original master.
The vinyl has been remastered by Angel Hair Audio, it will be a gatefold, it’ll have an insert with lyrics, and an all-new poster commissioned by the band. Similar to the original pressing, there will not be side markings on the vinyl.

“What’s a remaster?”
The audio has been touched up by a professional to make it suitable for vinyl. The recordings are the same, but might sound a little bit more fresh 😎

“How much is it gonna cost?”
Needlejuice works hard to make sure that their products are high quality and affordable for the consumer. It will not cost more than the other Tally Hall products on their website. Picture-discs tend to cost more, and feature a cool image design!
Prices should be the same as Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum currently is, those being $12 USD for a CD/tape and $30 USD for vinyl.
It’ll be a darn-sight cheaper than ordering the original pressings on eBay, I can tell you that!

“When can I pre-order it?”
You can pre-order it directly from Needlejuicerecords.com or needlejuice.bandcamp.com on August 26th 2022.
However, if you live in Europe, it may benefit you to pre-order it from their European distributors: HHV.de or Vinyl-Digital, who have cheaper shipping rates than HHV. Vinyl-Digital have LPs and Tapes but do not stock CDs.
European pre-orders may go live later than the 26th of August; be patient.

“What time?”
It is an *open pre-order*, which means that once it goes live, the pre-order will stay open. No need to worry about “getting in early” at a specific time.

“Once I’ve made the order, when will I receive it?”
Currently, it is a *pre-order*, which means that Needlejuice are gauging interest before they make the order with the manufacturer. They need to know how many to order, thus, they create an open pre-order.

If you ordered a CD or tape, you will most likely receive your order late this year, but if you ordered vinyl, you will most likely receive your order early next year, but please be patient. A lot of variables may affect your order; Needlejuice orders will be shipped out from the United States.
HHV and Vinyl-Digital orders will be shipped out from Germany.

“How many vinyl variants will there be?”
There will be 3, and one will be a picture disc but you’re just gonna have to wait until August 26th to find what they might look like.
Currently only one has been revealed, a black and white variant:

Note: The final product will not have A/B side indicators

“Will it include Instrumentals, or bonus tracks?”
No, not for this release.

Though Needlejuice have been known to hide bonus tracks on their CDs in various ways…

“Will there be an accompanying 7” vinyl single?”
YES! And I’m gonna have a personal moment because I’m very proud of the fact that I pitched this idea and Needlejuice ran with it:
It will be a *glow in the dark* 7” vinyl single of “Turn The Lights Off” with “Light & Night” on the other side of the record!
This also means that Light & Night will be released in lossless for the first time ever!
You’ll be able to purchase Light & Night digitally from Bandcamp, and you’ll be able to get it physically through this 7”, but it will not be on the tape, nor is it a bonus track on the CD.
The single artwork will be by Drew Mokris, director and animator of the Turn The Lights Off music video.
Further details about this release are still being finalised, so some details may be subject to change.

“Do they come with digital download codes?”
Vinyl: Yes.
Tape: Yes.
CD: No. You can instead rip the CD onto a computer digitally using a disc drive.

“Will my order come with stickers?”
If your order is from Needlejuice, yes. While stocks last.
If your order is from HHV, Vinyl-Digital, or any other retailer, no.

“When will they restock ‘Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum’ vinyl?”
An open Marvin’s pre order will go up on Needlejuicerecords.com at the same time as the Good & Evil pre-order, and the current repress will be going into retail distro immediately.
As of the date of this post, Vinyl copies of ‘Marvin’s…’ are still available on Vinyl-Digital.

“Does this mean Tally Hall are back together?!”
They’re still on “Indefinite hiatus”, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t been working hard to create a legacy for their fans. The band are actively involved in the process, and a lot of attention has been paid to the details of this repress. Tally Hall is still active, just not in the ways you might think…

“Will they press [other Tally Hall solo/side project]”
Not right now, no. Needlejuice have the rights to Tally Hall only, and no other side project or solo project.
Joe Hawley has announced that Hawaii: Part II will be repressed, but it will not be done by Needlejuice.

It is an open pre-order. This means there is no cutoff date. It will stop being a pre-order when the items are in hand, at which point it will just be a regular order!

Picture discs could cost anywhere up to $50 (or more). The Spirit Phone picture disc is $50, so I imagine it’ll be a similar price, but a final price has not been announced yet. Hoewever I can tell you the 7″ will cost less than $30

Will the picture disc release have lesser/different packaging compared to the standard vinyl pressings? I ask because I’ve noticed many picture disc vinyls skimp on the album cover, often just sending them in a bag or a cutout showing the vinyl. Thank you.
