O CRAP.

I forgot about 4chan.

The really scary thing is that an assassination, though tragic, is probably very likely to happen. Racism is still extremely prevalent in this country.

Yeeeaaah. A LOT more people in this country hated Bush in BOTH elections, and he's still standing.
I got close to him once, and you have NO IDEA the secret service coverage. 'Twas ridiculous.

FF: We made history!
OOPNFF: Everyone won't shut the heck up about it!

Sorry, a couple articles and a lot of friends have been bugging me.

I believe reactions like that are spawned from the pride many people are feeling for the first time, myself included.

It's not about the man himself, it's about what he represents. You may not know Tally Hall personally, but you probably felt some pride when you saw them on TV. It's the achievement of someone who represents who you are and what you are about. It's the ultimate sign that our country is changing and growing to be more accepting of each other. It's a lot.

At first, I was pretty meh about the win.

Once I heard his speech, it was done. I was proud. It's important to be pleased with what he represents. It's also refreshing that not only is he African American, but also not the typical Greyhair we're used to.

FUN DISCUSSION:

whenever I hear anyone pooh-poohing the message of hope and inspiration that barack has brought us, i have to cite my kids at school.

just a little background:

i teach at a middle school in brooklyn which is 90% black, 10% hispanic, 99% eligible for free lunch, etc etc... honestly, these kids hear and feel every day "no you can't". they have ZERO opportunities and it is a constant struggle to convince them that graduating high school and getting a college degree is actually important, because they live so day-to-day, worrying about if they'll get jumped on the way home, or if there will be food for dinner - the only meals some of them get are the breakfast, snack, and lunch we give them.

the last few days, these kids have been reborn. not only are they totally empowered by seeing a black man stepping into the highest office of our government, but they are learning tons about diversity and race relations (they are endlessly fascinated with barack's family history). we can only tell them "you can do anything!" so many times, and they don't usually believe it. but today when we watched his acceptance speech again in literature class, they were absolutely convinced that YES, THEY CAN. i'm not naive enough to believe that barack is the band-aid that will make the world perfect, but barack the president-elect has certainly done more than we could have ever hoped to do for the kids in my school :)

that's just a little message from my corner of the world... i know there are great stories from other people

I'm not trying to diss the man! Geez! I think its amazing what happened! In NYC everyone is happy right now!! It makes ME happy! I honestly think he'll do an AMAZING job for everyone. But I honestly think its downright odd for people to be claiming the 'greatest' night!

Oy, no more politics. It makes my head hurt. Lets just agree that he IS the president, and he'll do an AMAZING job. Because I honestly believe it. He's a truly good man. Plus, I think he's gonna help sports! Yay BCS playoffs! PLEASE!

FACT:

This place actually exists. In Madison.

IT'S STONKING TERRIFIC. They give you a small phonebook of their menu with a bell, which you ring when you are ready to be served. And the tea is AWESOME.

My lady-friend and I wanna move in there.

As I sit here and enjoy my own tea, I silently wish I had a place like that. My god, some of those teas look delicious.

FACT: Signed up for next semester today! Taking second semester of Shakespeare (where we read the Tragedies, finally), A linguistics course for my major, and Vampires in Film and Literature.

Yes, we have a Vampire class.

OOPNFF: They're offering a James Joyce class, with whom I am enamored, but it's full. Here's hoping my heartfelt email to the professor makes him let me in to it.

FACT: 'You're Awful, I love You' at Half Price Books. Fecking score

Currently doing my album-listening practice...on listening one so far.

I'm really odd about my music habits. A new album must be listened through three times to appreciate it fully.
1) Preliminary: The 'okay wtf did I just spend money on to get/let's get a good listen to it'
2) Secondary: 'Oh yeah, this song was pretty good on prelim, let's get a better feel of it'
3) Judgment: Must be with headphones on. Critical assessment of the album.

Woohoo for some 'work' tonight!

Its on HBO, it was originally from Australia. If you don't mind vulgar language, you might enjoy it. It can be quite brilliant at times

I just got The Flying Club Cup album by Beirut. It's fantastic. I'm only on my first listen though. So I'm just feeling my way through.
