Black People White People is the 2nd track on Joe Hawley's solo album, Joe Hawley Joe Hawley.

History

Black People White People was first rehearsed by Tally Hall during a rehearsal period for Good & Evil in 2009 at Danbro Studios.[1] A YouTube clip only features the first verse up to the first "What the fuck?", but may have more to it that was cut out. At some point Joe also recorded a solo demo and later uploaded it to YouTube.[2] The demo is a bit longer than the Tally Hall rehearsal and has weird pitched up and pitched down vocals against a simple synth, bass, and drum backing track. Each "What the fuck" in this demo is extremely pitched up, not too different from what was done for the final song.

Recording

The song samples The Little Ships by Jean Jacques Perrey, L’École Buissonnière by Jean Constantin, and Clarão da Lua by Nazaré Pereira.

Trivia

  • Black People White People is very similar to & from Good & Evil lyrically, both being about duality. This may mean it inspired &, or the other way around.

PR:I returned to the Earth to rebirth the hyperbolic
(sewed my con in the tract while you were sitting diastolic)
Lobachevskian fields betray the inharmonic
and Teutonic motivations
of the legions growing on it

JH:A tip of the hat to you sir, I should spout!
What a riveting thesis I shan't live without;
if you'll kindly excuse me I'll pull up my slacks
And imagine no chasm betwixt knaves and jacks

TD:Delivered again, sweet ice cream in the middle
A jumble of flavors, a spliced team color riddle
I'm a head-freeze dichotomy, and mixed-race lobotomy
gazing at stars while they spar every part of me

PR:Chronic electronics; Tulsi out the tropics
I's in the Cauc'us Mountains and working on my phonics
Atlas shrugs and burst the supersonic
Shadows on the wall; Plato's bees in your bonnet

BK:Do ghosts ride thinner than middle
(Ostensibly a riddle of complex complexion affinity
[but really mere proclivity for sun proximity
{vicinity of moon signals tidal paradiddle}])
