It was originally written for Toy Orchestra, a side project/affiliate band of Tally Hall during their time at the University of Michigan.[1] It would later make its way to Andrew's album sketches, released under the moniker edu.

A re-mixed and remastered version of Lemons and Pears was released as a single to streaming services on the 19th of June 2019, ahead of the release of sketches 3d.[2]
